Back in 2003, i was given a copy of their first album by a friend who was so impressed with their singing. Needless to say, i was charmed too.
Hailed as the "best contemporary a cappella group in the country" by fellow jazz musician James Morrison. Was indeed blessed to witness their performance with my own eyes and ears (a very last minute thing), totally bowled over, totally!!!
They are generally referred to as a jazz quartet, but sing a wide variety of styles, including pop, classical, soul and gospel. Winning awards and hearts of people that heard their music.
Their voices were their instruments, yup, no piano, no guitar, only Naomi (alto), Sally (soprano), Nick(tenor) and Andrew (bass). Pure, unadulterated voices filled the hall, it was so good that it gave me the goosebumps, heheh. The harmony was seamlessly smooth.... smooth as silk. Starting and ending in unison, without losing a beat, it was as if they have an in-built metronome and tuner.
It wasn't just the singing that was impressive, in fact they are a bunch of humourous ppl. A chicken waiting to be rescued ... a mouse trying to be a saxophonist.... chilli con carne..... even SPAM gets a mention in their lyrics. It was hillarious :)
They will be back again next year. This time make sure you don't miss them ya!!!
